Dr. Wayne H Cotton

My son’s medication ran out and had no refills. Dr. Cotton gave us his personal phone number to call him back on just in case. Well we called that number several times and left messages on his personal phone and the clinics. My son never got his refill and has been off his medication for 5 months. We just found out that right around that time Dr. Cotton apparently got in a car accident and resigned two weeks later from the Childrens Clinic in Amsterdam and no one bothered to call us to tell me my son doesn’t have a doctor anymore. Dr. Cotton never bothered to return our calls to even inform us he doesn’t work for them anymore. Now I’m left trying to find my son a doctor ASAP when I should’ve been notified months ago. He is irresponsible and should not be in charge of the mental health of children.

I regret having to give him even 1 star. This man should not be practicing mental healthcare to anyone, let alone teenagers. He is a reckless prescriber, takes NO notes whatsoever (only pad in front of him is a prescription pad), is sloppy, disorganized and moody. So first off all of the negative reviews are accurate! I have only seen Dr. Cotton a few times and every single time I’ve waited over an hour because he was “running late.” He has rescheduled me three times because his “back hurt”. I just went for my appointment that was rescheduled AND HE WASNT EVEN THERE!!! And decided to forward all my calls and ignore all my texts. Mind you it’s a 30 minute drive!! He threatened to remove me as a patient because I called him too much and he’s “a professional” hahaha yeah right— most Unprofessional ‘doctor’ I have ever come across in my entire life. I don’t know who gave this man his credentials to practice privately- its a scary thing! Also I would like to point out the fact that when he decided to postpone my appointment which was supposed to be last Saturday August 15th he told me he would mail my script for medication and I would have it by Tuesday. Greatest doctor. No doctor cares about their patients as much as Dr. Cotton. Extremely professional and proficient. Have been seeing Dr. Cotton since I was a child and have only ever experienced positivity and m successful, top of the line treatment.

All these negative reviews are spot on. Avoid this DR at all costs. As others have said, he doesnt return urgent phone calls and he double and triple books people for appointments. He did this to me and was unreachable the entire day. When I finally DID get in to see him HE chewed ME out for “ not having the patience to wait 2-3 hours after my scheduled time to see him.” Even worse, when i was understandably frustrated with this in his office, he flipped the tables on me and said my mental illness was the reason i was upset... He is extremley unprofessional, he took several personal phone calls in his office during both my visits with him, which left me with hardly any time to talk with him about a VERY important diagnosis. Not to mention him talking about other patients personal information right in front of me, names and all. Worst of all, when I went back to get my medical records some months afterwards with the clinic i saw him at, the part where his notes and diagnosis should have been, were all filled with “X” in each section. He apprently couldnt be bothered to do his basic job functions. Im writing this not because I am mad (i have moved on from him to another DR months ago) but because I worry about the people who go to him for help... Professional and extremely proficient.

over medicated my kids for years. Misdiagnosed my daughter.

He is difficult to get ahold of, has no doctor on call when he goes on vacation and often makes you wait an hour.

I’ve never seen a psychiatrist before. My wife found him From the list my insurance company gave us. He is the most unorganized doctor I’ve ever met. He’s not flexible with appointment times, he doesn’t keep any records, he only brings his prescription pad in talks with you for a few minutes writes some prescriptions and your off. He over books so that the patients are not stacked on top of each other, he’s never ready when you get there you always have to wait, like myself I had to wait over an hour before. It seems to me that he’s just trying to fit in as many patients as possible just to collect the co-pays and insurance money. He doesn’t really answer the phone nor does he really answer text and when he does, it’ll be a few days before he gets back to you. He told me he was a traveling psychiatrist for hospitals that are in between a doctor Which means he’s not very available and isn’t around most off the time. I was having a hard time and I was on a leave of absence from work because of it. That being said the insurance company needs the doctors notes which I asked for my last visit and he told me to text him to remind him so that’s exactly what I did. He wouldn’t answer the phone for the insurance company for my human resources department or myself. It seems to me that it was an inconvenience for him to get the records together to send to the companies because he had no notes. While going through all that I sent them a text for refills on my Scripts. He finally responded and told me that I had missed an appointment (which I did not) and that asking for refills the day before I was to runout is unacceptable. It was only the day before because he doesn’t respond to calls or texts. So after all that he told I would have to find a new provider! Awful experience especially because I hate the fact I let my guard down and trusted him with personal information because he is SUPPOSED to be a Dr. That won’t happen again! He was professional. He helped me further understand my symptoms and illness. He prescribed the right medicine for the time.

After nearly a decade of trusting this baffoon with my children and myself I realize several things: 1) he has no grasp on proper diagnosis completely missing the autism spectrum diagnosis on three of my four kids and 2) he over medicates often changing 2-4 prescriptions at a time so neither you or he has any chance of knowing what is or isn't working 3) he is unreliable often cancelling appointments last minute leaving you hanging without proper care
