After completing the initial online form, you will receive an email of requirements/pre-appointment questions that aren't clearly presented, and a broken link. The scheduling coordinator responds fairly quickly, but can only be reached through email. The tone of the emails are odd (as mentioned in other reviews). I was trying to clarify something regarding my insurance, even called my insurance to verify coverage, and for some reason the coordinator seemed defensive/annoyed. This resulted in an email response supposedly from Dr. Rios (contained punctuation/grammatical errors) who suggested two other Autism centers. I was already considering paying out of pocket and filing the medical claims myself as the office suggested. I was only trying to clarify a potential billing issue and do my due diligence before proceeding with the scheduling, but they escalated the situation in such an odd and seemingly unprofessional way, that I no longer feel welcomed to the practice. This might be why strict email correspondences can be an issue, where a phone call would have sufficed.

We had a great experience with Dr. Rios. The process was smooth, and Dr. Rios was helpful and reassuring. He and Lawanna are very warm and kind. I would recommend them to anyone in need of a developmental pediatrician.

I am very disappointed on how I was treated recently by Dr. Rios. We used his practice 3 years ago to get my son diagnosed with autism. Our first experience was amazing, we had no problems. We really loved the psycologist that evaluated our son. She was very sweet and patient with our son. I definitly recommend her services to anyone! I feel she also doesn't get enough credit. We wanted to get our son reevaluated because it has been 3 years and he needed an updated diagnosis. I went through the email process of answering questions, getting updated information, and setting up the series of appointments. No problem there at all, I was actually excited that we were going to get to see my sons progress. I was asked to send my son's IEP to them, so they could review his evaluation. I currently only had the printed out copy of his IEP. So, I scanned the 20 page IEP. One page at a time I had to scan it in. I attached all 20 pages to the email because that is how it was scanned to my computer. I received a reply back saying, "There are too many pdf attached. Let us know which one summarizes the findings or combine everything into one pdf or document." I took this as they were too lazy to open up the pages or they didn't have the time to scim through the information. I figured if I had the time to scan each page by hand, that surely they would have time to look at my son's IEP. I decided to go through my son's 20 page IEP myself to "summarize" which pages I thought were important to send back. I copied each page into the email directly. It turned out being about 10 pages or so. Unfortunately the email sent the pages as images instead of actual pages. The reply I got back was, "Not sure what those are but we don't want pics or images of every page. get the complete IEP in a Adobe Reader format which is a file that has a pdf extension. We get IEPs all of the time in this format so I know its possible." I thought this was very rude and unprofessional. I talked with my husband and we both agreed that this was an unacceptable response. We ended up cancelling our appointments. I highly recommend to stay away from this practice due to Dr. Rios unprofessional manner. I have attached the emails I received to show proof of how I was treated. Doctor is not in network with United Health Care. Maybe beneficial for them to list what insurance companies they are in network with when others are trying to contact them through the portal off of their website. Was very fast on email response! But the contact form off of their website was more difficult than it should have been. Need less required fields. Need to adjust and make the widths longer. Needs to use more simplistic and easier to understand verbiage when responding to emails. Important instead of imperative, virtual not telemedicine, etc. Overall, not bad Doctor is not in network with United Health Care. We were so fortunate to find Dr Rios and his team to evaluate our son. They were superb throughout the entire process. Our son ultimately was diagnosed with something that Dr Rios is not able to treat himself but the knowledge and insight we gained into our son’s condition was very valuable. After several horrible experiences with a local psychologist, we decided to travel 3 hours away to Dr Rios. Our pediatrician told us he was the best in the state and that she thought his wait list would be long. To our surprise, not only were we able to do everything from the comfort our our home, he was able to get us in AND get our official diagnosis to us within a month, whereas the other psychologist would have us wait 6 months. Dr Rios and his entire office were so professional during our entire process. We had emails, calls, and texts answered within hours. All of our questions were answered and the process was so smooth and easy. We cannot thank him enough for helping us get our little girl on the way to getting the help she needs. ALL of the NEGATIVE reviews on here are very much true. Here is what we experienced: When walking into the office for our first initial appointment with Dr. Rios he has an identical twin brother who manages the front desk, manages all his emails and booking appointments verifying insurance etc. The front desk that his brother was sits at....had all kinds off oddities and debris sitting all over it. There was a half open jar of peanut butter with knife sticking out of it sitting on the desk. Not like he was in the middle of making a sandwich but had been sitting there a while... Basically it was complete chaos on his desk and around him. This is exactly what I experienced with his brother trying to communicate with him or schedule appointments etc. Rios’s brother is his everything (his appointment booker, his payment receiver, his email and website manager etc. and an absolute nightmare to deal with. A few things that were completely odd and not consistent with an medical professional that myself or my family have ever seen that are what we experienced at Rios office. This is also apparently known in the community that this how they operate as I have heard: 1. There is literally no way to call and all communication must be done in email and through his brother who again is a nightmare to deal with. 2. If your divorced, Rios’s brother will absolutely refuse to schedule any follow up appointments for your child and doesn’t care even if Rios told you that you child should receive follow ups with him. The reviews about this are very true. I am divorced and have custody of my son who was diagnosed with Autism by Rios. My husband has supervised visits for a few hours with a constable and this is all court ordered. Despite this, a verifiable court record of it and knowing that I have custody of my son, Rios’s brother will absolutely refuse to reset any follow ups. Essentially, they are discriminatory against children whose parents are divorced. Rios told me when he diagnosed my son initially with Autism, that he would want to see him YEARLY but then when having to email his office to request a yearly follow up appointment, his brother tells me that they don’t do follow up appointments and only do diagnosis despite me repeatedly telling him that Rios said he wanted to see my son for a follow up YEARLY. Basically they will take your money up front for the initial diagnosis and know you are divorced but then will refuse any follow up appointments after that. It’s basically his way of discriminating on divorced parents without coming out and saying it. However, the other parents on here that have written poor reviews are spot on and correct. This to me - allowing his brother to refuse care to a patient who has a divorced parent is poor quality of care and neglectful. 3. His brother is a completely rude. I think he has a major disability that impacts his ability to communicate normally. I honestly think that he might be autistic, so I don’t think he means to be rude, I just think he is mentally disabled. He just might be better suited to do book keeping or something that doesn’t require him to be the one and only communication outlet for patients for Rios’s office. All of the above makes it pretty much the strangest experience that we have ever experienced from any medical practice. There are other options other than Rios. We given the name Kim Johnson instead by industry known ABA therapists who relayed that quite a few patients had some really odd or poor experiences with Rios, particularly the brother, who controls literally everything that Rios does. PLEASE NOTE: I edited my review to be able to respond to the office/Patricia’s response of this review below. Here is my response to the offices response.... My custody order stated that I have sole right to make all medical and psychological decisions for my son, my X-husband was present... and my son was well under the age of 12 when I requested MULTIPlE times to set a follow up as it was supposed to be YEARLY per Rios and you had seen him at age 7. He is still under 12. ALL of the NEGATIVE reviews on here are very much true. Here is what we experienced: When walking into the office for our first initial appointment with Dr. Rios he … More

Dr. Rio and his office stuff was amazing. During my four visits, I never had to wait. One day I was almost an hour early as I had another appointment close to that area and they squeezed me in. I have been seeing many doctors and facilities for multiple issues in my family. Many were good and met my expectation. But with Dr. Rio my experience was something I have never experienced. He treated my entire family with such respect that I was overwhelmed. In my experience, when a doctor is knowledgable with vast experience they become not too friendly. Dr. Rio was completely different. He was very knowledgable, highly qualified and ironically super curtious. I sincerely appreciate Dr. Rio's patience answering my hundreds of questions. I recently had my child evaluated for autism with Dr. Rios. I had a very good experience. I received a response via email as soon as I made an inquiry via their website. I went with Dr. Rios because some doctors/facilities require that a child sit through a 3-4 hour evaluation. Dr. Rios performs 3 sessions for evaluation and a fourth to review his diagnosis and discuss/answer questions. My child’s presence was only required for two of the 3 sessions. I didn’t want to put my autistic child through a gauntlet of tests in one day as that would have been difficult for him. I am very satisfied with Dr. Rios and his office staff. However, I would have appreciated the office reaching out to me first when services had resumed. Our third session was postponed due to the pandemic and the county requiring non essential offices to shut down in April. In May, I reached out to his office to see when the evaluation could be completed. Again, I received a quick response in the same day. Dr. Rios has been using teleconference to perform parts of the evaluation and found a work around for the other portion of the evaluation involving our child which I found easy to do at home per his instructions. I would recommend any parent who has been having trouble getting a diagnosis while trying to stay safe and practice social distancing to contact his office. I had trouble with other places like Cook Children’s Child Study Center. They have a long wait list and won’t give you a timeframe for when they will see you. After initiating contact with Dr. Rios’ office, we were seen within a month. If not for this pandemic, we would have had an evaluation by early April. Dr. Rios evaluated our 9 year-old son. The evaluation took place over 4 days and was very thorough from start to finish. Dr. Rios took time to explain the findings and the importance of continued growth in social skills, such as perspective-taking, interpreting nonverbal language and conflict resolution and the direct connection these skills have in school, jobs, etc. In the future I will be happy to recommend him, both personally and professionally. Thank you, Dr. Rios!

ANY Doctors office that strictly communicates with you via email should be AVOIDED!!! His brother and staff are rude and disrespectful. Your child deserves better care and attention. A response to the owners response, Did I ask 30 questions, I don't know but with any parent struggling with an autistic child, strictly communicating with a doctor via email is simply unacceptable and at best its a bizarre and distant way to establish a rapport with any new patient. I was not rude to his staff...my experience was similar to all the other negative experiences other new patients have had with this doctor's staff. Who ever replied to this review is simply trying to discredit me and cast doubt in the minds of a new patient that have not experienced the behavior of his staff first hand. Yes, after waiting an ENTIRE SUMMER to be seen by this doctor, my financial situation changed and I had no choice but to request a rescheduling. His brother was disrespectful in his abrupt reply by saying I should "just find another doctor" (the owners response seems to omit this fact). So, his response to my initial review shows that someone on his staff is simply seeking to discredit me and cloud the facts of the situation. Bottom line, the administrative practices of this staff and its behavior or known by other doctors and citizens in this community/metroplex and its unaccepted. They "throw rocks and hid their hands". They wouldn't dare seek to meet with any one of their negative reviewers to truly work through those individual issues because the reality is...they are cowards!! I had been referred to Dr. Rios by my pediatrician. I got the appointment after 2 months. My son had gone through 3 sessions just for evaluation which took another 2 months. After going through so long, all he said was my son has high functioning autism and need to go through ABA therapy. As per him we started ABA therapy which again taken 1 more month to start. But he never gave any feedback about the motor skills nor recommended any occupational therapy (OT) . My son is now struggling with his writing skills. If he had assessed my son on a overall development, I could have started OT 1 year back. As a development pediatrician, I expect him to evaluate a child from overall development. Dr Rios was very rude and condescending towards me and I don't know if it had anything to do with my enthicity. After my child's initial diognosis and report, they refused to see my son for follow up visits. The lady that handles the admin work, I think her name was Donna, was extremely unprofessional as well. Find another Dr if you want them to care about your child and show any sympathy. The response below is a complete lie. The reason there was a small balance left because I wasn’t aware of it due to missing the final appointment. But when I contacted them to schedule the next appointment , I was advised of the balance and I was happy to make the payment. But they were extremely rude and made it seem like I didn’t make they payment intentionally and refused to schedule an appointment despite offering to pay the balance. They are greedy and don’t care about the patients well being, it’s all about the money and clearly are bunch of liers as well confirming by their false narrative below. Never got to see the doctor. I emailed for a new appointment for my son, and received an email back from the office manager. She did not come off as very friendly in her response and informed me that the doctor does not see older children anymore. My son is 11. So I emailed back for clarity and was again told that he does not see pre-teens or teens. For a doctor that treats anxiety and ADHD in children, you would think that pre-teens and teens would be a group that he would welcome.

We came here after hearing the good things about Dr. Rios and establishing a diagnosis for autism. We just completed our initial assessments and conclusions appointment, and I can only say great things. For our first appointment, I was Prepared to have to review my son’s information like I typically Have to do at appointments. However, I was pleasantly surprised when Dr. Rios had already reviewed the records we sent. He asked questions and let us talk about our son. The follow up appointments were testing, and I was Able to see where my son was able to perform (the good and the bad). We finished with a discussion of his diagnosis and plans for next steps. The entire time we were there, we were treated with such respect and as if we mattered. I never felt hurried or pressured to get done and out of the way. I also Love that IWas not left to have to take a diagnosis and look up what it meant. An autism diagnosis is hard- even when you know it is right. I am Thankful that this process allowed my son to be himself, show where we did and did not need to focus, and guide us in our future. We were forewarned by our pediatrician that the office communicates primarily by email and did not experience any problems with contact to and from them. Dr. Rios was able to see our son within 1 week of initiating contact and by the next week, my husband and I were able to sit down and review the diagnostic conclusion with Dr. Rios. Each member of the staff were caring, compassionate, funny, and genuinely made an effort to make our 8 year old son feel safe and comfortable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Rios and his staff. 5 stars isn't enough!!! Any parent of a child that needs to be seen by a developmental pediatrician experiences fear, worry, anxiety, and stress. EXCELLENT experience all around. My son was evaluated this summer and it took 4 appointments. When you are there, you feel like you are the only patient he has because he gives lots of time and attention to each patient. I really appreciated this and do not normally get this service with other providers. He and his staff was very knowledgeable and my son felt like he was going to play with friends. He still talks about going to see Dr Mike!

It is an absolute beating tryin to set up an appointment. You have to go thru 2 separate portals to request appointments and when I asked if someone could just call me to set up the appointment I was told to find another physician. Bad service.

My daughters pediatrician recommended Dr. Rios & we started the process of trying to get in back in March. I just today received an email telling me that they were not comfortable working with us because of our Tricare insurance & to find someone else. When I asked for a phone call, I was told no that they didn't accept tricare. The website says that they do. Don't waste your time! If this had negative stars to give that's what they would get. You can't get a phone call returned, you can only communicate through email & if you're a single parent & you don't have sole custody they don't want to work with you. Yes this is my case. My ex-husband & I & his new wife are all on the same page & we co-parent extremely well. They can't work with me because of this. It shouldn't matter if we have the insurance & we were referred by the pediatrician. My daughters pediatrician recommended Dr. Rios & we started the process of trying to get in back in March. This office was recommended to us from an agency. Tried to make an appointment. After analyzing our insurance as having a high deductible, he wouldn't take us, but said it in a way that he didn't have the resources to help her due to our insurance. What they don't realize is that we put a great amount of money into our HSA for our daughters health care. It's more economical for us and our money actually goes to her. He based everything off of the fact our insurance deductible was high. I was more than expecting to pay each visit up front. I'm glad we didn't get in to see him. Would have been a huge waste of our hard earned money. They also said they wouldn't be able to give a health diagnoses, which wasn't what I was looking for. I just wanted her evaluated. We just moved here and he was recommended for her developmental issues. They replied with the fact that they didn't have the resources to help her and that I needed to stay with my current team of doctors. And again, we just moved here and they are 1200 miles away. Honestly the weirdest doctor referral I have had, ever! By the email replies, I'm not sure what this doctor actually does, because it wasn't what I thought, I guess. I thought he helped evaluate developmental behavioral issues. Anyway, just thought y'all should know that from what they said to me in my email. Your assessment will be determined by the insurance. Seems shady to me. I wouldn't want my kids diagnosed with something just because I had good insurance, or not diagnosed because of not having good insurance. Crazy. My son has his appointments next week, so we have not seen Dr. Rios yet, but we're looking forward to it. I did want to comment on the appointment process and his staff. You do have to go through a portal to set up the appointment(s), but this is because sensitive information can/will be shared through email (as opposed to sitting on the phone answering questions and hoping the person on the other end got it all down). It's all a matter of being prepared for the first visit, and I think you can respect a clinic that wants to keep your information as secure as possible. After answering a few questions, I received a call from their office promptly to set up appointments. The lady I spoke with was very kind, helpful and understanding of the distance we were traveling (5+ hours) for our visits, and she was able to set them up on consecutive days for us. They required we have three visits, but I am totally okay with that level of thoroughness. So far, so good. Bradyn responded so well to Dr. Rios, and his whole facility. He went in for diagnosis, and was so comfortable there, that he was able to complete the required tests and examinations with very little difficulty. I felt very confident that the analysis was based on a very good representation of my son's abilities as a result. Even though we have the diagnosis, and will not be going back to see Dr. Rios for some time, my son keeps asking to go and see him - : D

It was a pleasure working with Dr. Rios and his team over the course of four visits for my son's recent evaluation. Dr. Rios spends considerable time with his patients and addresses the needs of the whole family. He is a treasure in care of our children and a wealth of knowledge in his field. The initial intake materials to complete online may take some time; however, all visits are preceded by texts and are very responsive to changes.

Dr. Rios and his staff were a pleasure to work with. We went in with some difficult issues, lots of questions, and were pretty nervous about the possible diagnosis. Dr. Rios gave us a thorough diagnosis following an in-depth (and painless) assessment as well as information on where to go from there. He was extremely reassuring that this diagnosis was not the end of the world and that there was a lot that could be done to help our son.

Dr Rios was great and thorough in his assessment. However, he didn't give us any guidance or resources other than a book on how to help my son with his ADHD. He just said to have patience. Literally, that is all he said. Even when we asked how we could help him because he wasn't in need of medication. I need more guidance from a professional when I've done so much work and paid money to have a diagnosis. Just because he wasn't a "severe case" doesn't mean we still don't have struggles.

I was prepared for the worst. What my child would never do. I didn't get that at all. Dr. Rios was amazing and pleasant and just awesome. He provided me with a pretty hefty amount of info that my insurance company would maybe ask for. He also said the center, the insurance company, basically anyone could call him anytime for any more info. The Lego filled office was my son's dreamland and my husband didn't want to leave either. His office staff, just lovely. I can't recommend him enough.

Was recommended to us by a behavioral school for her evaluations because we just moved to the area from another state. Not sure what this doctor does, but didn't see us due to high deductible insurance. Not sure if this office realizes that most insurance companies don't pay alot of behavioral services. We have a great HSA and knew we would be paying up front at each visit up front. They then replied with the fact that they didn't have the resources to help her. Great! I hate wasting money.

The worst interaction I've ever had with a physician in my life. When we were surprised by my child's Autism diagnosis, he was offended. At a time when we just needed answers, he rushed us out of his office without any. He said "were you not expecting this?" No. Actually, we weren't. And it's just a hard thing to take in, even if somewhere inside you know it's true. He was cold, and even mean about it. He didn't give us any help about what to do next. Horrible on a day we needed compassion.
