Dr wheeler took very good care my of me when I was a kid I'm 31 yrs old now 28 years of type 1 diabetes I miss seeing him if he saw adult patients he would be my doctor today

I was a patient during my childhood for T1D. Been a diabetic for over 22 years now. My experience with Dr. Wheeler has left me shocked that he is still practicing. He left me with PTSD of going to doctors to begin with. He would review my blood glucose charts and ask me, an 8-14 year old at the time, why my blood glucose has spiked up 2 months before in the afternoon. He would then accuse me of sneaking foods without insulin. He would give my disapproving looks, would speak angrily to ME and then frustrated at my mom. He would make me feel awful about myself and only made my depression worse. Turns out, I was battling insulin resistance but he never bothered to check. He would blame me for my high A1C but would not offer education or resources. It wasn’t until my mom grew tired of this that she complained and in my future appointments I only would see his nurse practitioner and no longer he the doctor (thank God for the NP, kind and patient soul!). I immediately left him after I begged my parents to do everything possible to look for a provider that cared, didn’t traumatize me further and LISTENED to me. I now work in the same hospital and run into his patients on occasion. Parents continue to tell me how frustrated they are with his care. But due to the lack of resources or pediatric endocrinologists available, nobody leaves. I just want to say, there’s hope but be patient. Eventually, you will find a doctor that cares and listens and wants to work with you. And yes, I am thriving now after putting in the right work, current A1C is 7.1, metformin, no complications, on Medtronic pump and CGM. I was a patient during my childhood for T1D. We have been stuck in the endocrine shortage since my son was born. We have been with Dr wheeler and the other revolving Dr's for 20 years. The issue I have with Dr wheeler is that he cares about the money and not the patient. Dr wheeler left my son ( his patient of 19 years) for dead. Dr wheeler refused to refill or give my son an appointment. My son is cortisol dependent due to his disease. Dr wheeler is mad that my son missed an appointment ( and I guess lost pay) and to punish us he is refusing to refill a prescription that keeps my son alive. Dr. Wheeler has taken care of my son for the last 12 years. He has always given us his full attention and has been a great help with not only my son managing his diabetes, but also with our family dealing with it and understanding what needs to be done. He is the only one I would recommend for your child and their diabetes. Staff has also been nothing but helpful.

Dr Wheeler is by far the best doctor I have ever seen. I was diagnosed with T1D at 12 and spent my entire adolescence with him as my doctor. He is very easy going and empathetic. He has a commitment to treating T1D children and is the best endo I've met with. Dr. Wheeler helped me manage my BG levels and achieve an A1C below 7 for 3 years straight.

I really like Dr. Wheeler. He is a very caring man who listens to my concerns and offers good suggestions. He is a little on the quiet side which I appreciate. My daughter has Type 1 and he has cared for her for 5 years now. The wait can be a little long and sometimes you don't get to see the Dr. himself for very long, but I am not rating the office..just the Dr. And he is wonderful.

Stay away from this Dr. Office unless you have 2 hours to wait for your appointment, and dont care if the 4 minutes they finally give you is not worth anything but them listening to your childs lungs and tapping their knees. Its so sad to say that this is what a good diabectic TEAM has turned into...We have been with Dr. Wheelers office for a total of 9 yrs...they are a JOKE!!! I wish contacting the board would amount to anything..unstead I will vote with my feet and find a better if not the best Dr for my child.
