Dr Riley thinks very highly of himself. He told my daughter to rest for 4 weeks and then come back to see him. Then he proceeded to say he did not know why we were upset. He was a surgeon and he did not want to do surgery on my daughter so we should be happy. I just wanted my daughter to feel bette. So my daughter just had a repair of her torn meniscus by another surgeon. This surgeon actually gave my daughter a thorough examination and also did not make us feel stupid. Dr. Riley Jr. is amazing!!!! Awesome surgeon and wonderful bedside manner for our 16 year old daughter who tore her labrum in her hip. He came highly recommended from our cousin who is a pediatrician. We went to three surgeons and we definitely felt most comfortable with Dr. Riley. The first surgeon we saw is a surgeon for the Browns. Our friend's daughter had the same surgery on her hip with the Browns surgeon. He didn't put her on Celebrex for a short period of time after the surgery which resulted in a build up of scar tissue that RETORE her labrum. She had to repeat the same surgery a year later! Dr. Riley Jr. put our daughter on Celebrex, advising us about the scar tissue. We are 9 months post surgery without the scar tissue problem. Our pediatrician highly recommended getting the surgery through a pediatric surgeon since they specialize in childrens' bodies. I'm so glad we followed this advice because Dr. Riley didn't send our daughter to therapy until 2 weeks after surgery, wheras the other surgeons send their patients the next day when they are feeling horrible! Dr. Riley explained older people need PT quicker b/c they get stiff, and that's not the case for kids. We LOVE Dr. Riley Jr. and highly recommend him and the staff at Akron Children's Hospital! I had hip surgery with Dr. Riley Jr in June 2018. He has an amazing bedside manner. I went to 2 other surgeons before him and he for sure made it the most comfortable. I loved the experience. I definitely would recommend. I’m back to softball (and have been since Nov. 1) now with little to no problems and can’t wait to see where my new hip takes me:) so thankful for this experience. He offered physical therapy, injections, prescription and much more before turning to surgery. I was very happy about that because we got to check off all the ways it might heal by itself before having to go through surgery. Although I still ended up needing the surgery, I was confident in my choice because I knew I had done everything in my power to prevent it. I had no “what if i did this” thoughts. The other surgeons that I went to were shady and didn’t want to offer me such things. Riley even put me on a pill to prevent extra bone growth in the hip after the surgery was over. One of my friends had the same surgery as me but with a different surgeon (we both had our labrums torn) and she was not put on those pills. She had to have a second hip surgery because she had bone growth and that ended up tearing her labrum again. I would highly, HIGHLY recommend going to Doctor Riley. Went to him for infant hip dysphasia. Never mentioned he has little if any experience and I found this very unprofessional. I would have never found out if I didn’t research reviews. Husband and I left appointments with MANY unanswered questions and always second guessing information and answers we did get. Rude bedside manner. Not one time did him or his assistant (name still unknown) knock before entering.

Two children from my family have seen this guy, and their injuries both took 3 weeks extra to heal. Denied requests by family to use supplemental treatment at no cost to him or risk of injury to patients. A sports doctor, who does not try to get players back on the field/court/etc. Any doctor can say wait 3 extra weeks for a broken bone in the hand to limit liability, don't have to be a sports doctor. I see football players playing with casts all the time.
