If giving negative stars were a possibility, it’s what I would give him. I was being treated by another doctor in his practice. I was not feeling better under her care. So I asked to see someone else and they put me with this doctor. He spoke to me for under 5 minutes. And told me everything was in my head and that he would not prescribe me any medication. I’ve never been treated so poorly in all my life. The doctor I was seeing previous to this practice was on the other coast so I switched when I moved. She spent countless hours with me. Taking time to properly diagnose and treat me. I went months with medication or therapy. Now I’m looking at an inpatient hospitalization. I personally would not recommend him to my worst enemy.

I have been seeing Dr. Atiq for almost 2, 1/2 years. He has continued to ignore my concerns and is always very condescending. When I come to my appointments, I always feel very rushed and feel like I am basically not allowed to explain what I’m actually feeling. Recently, I have completely shut down as I view him as a person that is there to just fill my prescriptions but not somebody that I can trust or talk to openly. He is a “doctor” who is in it for the money. Get the patients in, keep them there the shortest time possible for the appointment (AKA not listen to them at all) then send them on their way, doubting anything that they have thought about discussing. He is not a doctor he is a Fraud who happens to have a medial license

He made an extremely unprofessional comment to me upon discharge from behavioral health. I contacted the patient representative twice. Was told I would receive a letter confirming that my concern was discussed with him. I have yet to receive any correspondence and it has been several months.

My son was under his care as impatient. My son was diagnosed with manic bipolar disorder...was told he was given physical and occupational therapy everyday there (6 days )which he only received one day the last day he was there. Dr Atiq was unaware of the neglect that was going on yet did nothing to correct circumstances and sent my son home on 7 medications . The Woman named "Lou " social worker "Donna " both very cold individuals 1 forcing us to take my son or leave him they will send him to homeless shelter ( on a walker wearing adult diapers).... the other would not help send my son to another skilled nursing facility due to " no other facility will take your son ,face it ,nobody wants to take anyone from a psych ward!!!"(Lou) I do not recommend this facility ,one Nurse "Kim " she was excellent and professional ,honest...as For Dr Atiq he released my son too early and to many meds. Ativan and Haldol was replaced with my alternative 5mg melatonin. Now 1 month later ,my son is only on 1 prescription with melatonin at night walking around the block even to the Library .showers and shaves himself ,very independent thanks to Jesus Christ My son was under his care as impatient. My son was diagnosed with manic bipolar disorder...was told he was given physical and occupational therapy everyday there (6 days )which he only received one day the last day he was there. I was first treated by Dr Atiq inpatient at UVMC 15-16 yrs ago. At that time I found him cold and thought he wasn't listening to me. Since then he has treated me in crisis situations 3-4 times. One thing he consistently told me was that I will continue to struggle so long as I continue to self medicate. Of course I didn't want to hear it, thought it was rude of him and just an excuse for, "not curing me". The last time I saw him a few months ago I was near 1 year sober. He acted so proud of me, congratulated me. In that session I realized that he remembered conversations that we had 15 years ago. He was always listening. It was me who was resistant to change, me that wasn't listening. Me stuck in a cycle of self destruction. I believe that Dr. Atiq can come across cold. He will ask the hard questions. He is not going to give you warm fuzzies. He is an attentive thorough Dr. who gets straight to the point. He will see right through your bull. If you are all in and serious about your mental health Dr. Atiq is great. I was first treated by Dr Atiq inpatient at UVMC 15-16 yrs ago. I gave Dr. Atiq 1 star...as it forced me to when writing a review. I was in a vulnerable place while under his care. The nurses, therapists, MHT's and social workers were all wonderful, kind, and compassionate. I am a survivor of PTSD and major depression. Dr. Atiq made statements to cultivate guilt and shame; rather than acknowledge the symptoms of my functioning in light of my experiences. His tone was arrogant, haughty, sarcastic and his comments only triggered my abuse history. When I assertively told him it wasn't okay for him to speak to me that way, he continued to argue over me and he completely ignored my request to be spoken to out of respect. He was judgmental and it hurt my heart greatly having had him as a doctor. My prayer is that he be open to learning and using trauma informed care with his patients current and future. Mental health matters and patients deserve safety in these settings. Dr. Atiq would be the last person on the planet I would ever go to when triggered. He is now a part of my flashbacks. What a mean, angry and bitter soul. He may want to consider a different position, vs. working with hurting people. I gave Dr. Atiq 1 star...as it forced me to when writing a review. I dont appreciate the way he talks down to females. My husband was even present at one of the appointments and he heard the way he spoke to me and the way he spoke of any female. I will never return to him and I will not recommend him to anyone. Dr. Atiq shouldnt be practicing medicine in the behavioral health care. When I told his nurse the way I felt she didnt seemed surprised at all, which tells me its not just me that has issues. She proceeded to sit in on the appointment and completely understood that I would be switching doctors. She was so amazing she even gave me another doctors name that was a female!

Very rude. Only spends 5 minutes with his patients. Routinely interrupts and does not listen. Extremely condescending. He is the last person who should be working in a field thats goal is to help people. He seems to lack any sort of empathy. He switched my medications several times and when I was weaned off of one to try another, he gave me very little time to get off of it which resulted in withdrawal (This medication is known as one of the worst for withdrawal symptoms).

Horrible example of professionalism for the mental health field. Very judgmental. He spoke down to the staff in front of the families visiting. Yelled at a nurse in the common area. I felt so bad for the RN's and therapist who have to submit to his authority. He made it known that he was the top dog and nobody questioned him. Very disappointing experience for my family member who left after no psychological testing and no plan. He repeately told me he was just a bandaid and it's not his job.

He uses all the tools he has to help you out but he doesnt switch meds very often. He should give more time to a patient before giving a diagnosis and be open to try different combination of meds if the patient is not responding well. He is helpful but he may be over critical and cautious.

Short and to the point is something you want from a fast food restaurant, not a psychiatrist. Dr. Atiq, after 10 minutes of talking on my first visit, had apparently fully diagnosed me and was ready to treat. His proof? A psychiatry dictionary sitting on his desk. When I said I was not ready for treatment after such a short time, he said I disappointed him. Following that was an assault on my ideas about treatment; I was wrong, he was right. Twenty minutes into an hour session, I left. Mean spirited, refuses to talk to get to know the patient, and attempts to rush you into therapy, medication, and other treatments before even getting to know you. Not to mention my trouble getting an appointment. Online applications were rejected twice, despite me checking the soonest available appointment box. Phonecalls were annoyed despite pleading messages. Avoid.

Rude and unprofessional. Did not let me speak more than five sentences before diagnosing and trying to treat me. When I refused on the basis of wanting to talk more, he said he was disappointed with me. Then he pulled out a psychiatry dictionary and showed me the definition of my conditions... as if that helps me at all. I left early, in disgust.
