Dr. Sherman H Peirce

Dr. Peirce was recommended by a respected eye surgeon, a few years ago, so that's who my husband had been going to. 3 months ago, he went in for a new exam, paid for the exam and eyewear, and received the new glasses. 2 months later, the 1st pair lost a nose pad and one of the lenses slipped out of the rimless "frame". We replaced the nose pad and slid the lens back into place. A few days later, on the 2nd pair, the temple and half way down the arm broke as well as losing another nose pad. We called Dr. Peirce's office and were told that they were discouraging patients coming into the office until Monday or later because they had been exposed to Covid (but they weren't closed, just trying to keep patients to a minimum... sounds odd). My husband is dependent on glasses so we contacted another recommended optometrist but he was out on vacation so, being Friday, my husband decided to drop in on Dr. Peirce's office to see if he could get his glasses repaired or replaced. Keep in mind that over the 30 years of wearing glasses, my husband has probably had 15+ pairs of glasses. All lasting roughly about 2 years or more. Only needing change due to prescription changes and scratches (we purchase anti-scratch coatings on the inside AND outside of the lens). When Dr. Peirce saw these glasses, he literally said that my husband was trying to "pull one over one him" and said those are not the glasses he sold us. When my husband insisted, his staff looked them up and verified that these were, in fact, the pair purchased 2.5 months ago. Again, Dr. Peirce accused my husband of being dishonest (even though he was just proven wrong). My husband brushed aside the accusations and asked about the lenses being put into a different pair of frames but was told that wasn't possible (pointing out some extremely minor scratches and saying the glasses were years old, not merely months - although everyone else looking at those glasses doesn't see severely scratched lenses as claimed by Dr. Peirce) so he inquired about the "warranty" he was told about when he bought them. He was told that he could order new glasses and the doctor would take $20 off his new purchase.... so, let's see... he just paid hundreds of dollars for 2 pairs of new glasses, had them both break down in under 2.5 months (dollar store glasses last longer), and was only being offered $20 for the warranty and only if he purchased new from their office? Nope. Not ok. After all of this haggling, Dr. Peirce excused himself saying that he had an appointment waiting (what happened to the Covid excuse we were given days before?). My husband asked for his prescription so he could take his money elsewhere and purchase new glasses but was told by the staff that he couldn't have that because that's "illegal". What's illegal about getting his prescription and purchasing glasses elsewhere? He paid for the exam and garbage glasses, in full, so he owes Dr. Peirce's office nothing which means, by law, he owns his medical information... but not according to South Hills Family Eye Care. If Dr. Peirce was worth his salt, he'd have called the lab and inquired as to why the workmanship on these glasses failed so quickly but, instead, he chooses to alienate a long term patient AND let his staff lie by not giving up his prescription. My husband has now found a new Optometrist who is going to try to get the prescription (for the principal of the matter since they can just reexamine him anyway) to save him money since he's already lost so much in his dealings with South Hills. Save your money and don't spend it here. Find an ethical Optometrist who cares about their patients instead. Dr. Peirce accuses long term patients of trying to "Pull one over" on him, even when his staff proves purchase was recent, when patient expects expensive eyewear's warranty to actually do more than put $20 toward another new purchase of eyewear from Dr. Peirce... clearly not standing behind his product. Then staff refused to give patient the Paid In FULL prescription for his lenses so that he could take the Rx elsewhere for new glasses... telling patient it was "illegal". Patient had to find new optometrist to get prescription.

One star? Are you kidding me. Dr. Peirce is kind and knowledgable. I have recommended him to numerous people. He runs on time and I couldn't disagree more about the profit margin comment. Go to Dr. Pierce you won't be disappointed.

I noticed a review on Dr. Peirce that said he was only interested in money. That is not the same Dr. Peirce I have known for years. He has treated our family objectively and more than fairly. I am very comfortable recommending Dr. Peirce to all. You won't regret it. We will return.

Dr. Peirce is fantastic. I've been going to him for 4 years now and won't be going anywhere else any time soon. I highly disagree with the reviewer who said all he cares about is profit margins. I've been to several optometrists over the years and can say that he charges very reasonable prices. He is very personable. He engages in conversation beyond just my vision and spends all the time I need and answers all questions very well.

OMGoodness, I love him! Best eye doctor ever! This story illustrates it well: Dr Pierce had been my doctor a few years, but my husband didn't want to go "all the way to Draper" to see him (we we're in SLC at the time), but I finally convinced him to go. After his first appointment, he said that Dr. Pierce is so great he would have gone all the way to Provo to see him. I've been wearing glasses for almost 30 years and have been to optometrists all over the country, and I've never had another doctor nearly this good. He actually explains things. And shares little details about my eyes that helps things make sense. He's really great at talking abiut the risks and benefits of getting additional tests, without fear mongering or pressuring you to spend the money. Plus, he's so personable and remembers things from my last visit, even if it was a year ago. Also worth noting: he's great with kids. I start taking mine to him when they're about twelve months, and he is great with them. OMGoodness, I love him! Best eye doctor ever! Dr Pierce and staff are amazing. I had an emergency eye issue and he and his staff got me right in and helped me quickly. I highly recommend him and his practice. My wife and kids also get their glasses, contacts and exams through his practice.

Our family loves going to see Dr Peirce! He's professional, kind, and takes the time to explain tests and issues to us. When my husband had an eye infection, they were able to see him the same day. Good selection of frames and super helpful staff. Highly recommend them to all our friends and family!

Dr Peirce should not be allowed to practice. He is more interested in profit margin than the health if his patients. Will not return.

Great service, great staff, everything about my experience here was enjoyable. Dr. Peirce explains things very well and he is fun!
