Dr. Soe Soe Maw

Not David, but Cherie. I saw Dr. Soe Maw as my primary care physician when I switched to UCD medicine. I chose her because she was one of the few that had a degree in internal medicine and was a female. During my initial physical she was extremely thorough. I am not an easy patient as I have so many physical issues to deal with. She took the extra time, more than was scheduled to listen to me, didn't rush me and took everything I said seriously and issued referrals to specialists. I took one star away from her because she is part time, I knew that when I signed up, and when I needed urgent or immediate appointments to be seen she was all booked up. I saw other doctors in the office and I am pleased with their care in each medical issue. I am now on the right tract and confident in the care from those referrals and the doctors available for same day appointments. Not David, but Cherie. I am honestly shocked that Dr. Maw has such good ratings on the UCD website. Dr. Maw is one of the absolute worst doctors I have ever seen and that is saying something. Up until this point, I had been seeing Dr. Long who is absolutely one of the best doctors I have ever seen and the best doctor I’ve seen at UCD to date. As of writing this, I have been with UCD for a year. Unfortunately, Dr. Long had to go on medical leave and I have been without a primary care doctor for several months now. I am dealing with horrendous wooziness and blood sugar crashes and have Hashimoto’s that I’m on a waitlist to see the only other endocrinologist in the area (because the other one, Dr. Malamug who should absolutely not be a doctor, I’ve already seen twice and never hope to see her again for as long as I live) and am so very weak. When I saw Dr. Maw, I was flabbergasted at how incompetent and absolutely behind on any kind of research she was. She is nice, so I will give her that. But OH my god. I wrote down on a piece of paper what’s going on with me because I’ve been having terrible brain fog and she didn’t even read it. She just kept asking me the questions that I already answered in my list. In the past doctors have appreciated me typing up my symptoms, this is the first time one has not. She was completely dismissive of how I was feeling. She didn’t even CHECK my chart like literally EVERY OTHER DOCTOR I’VE SEEN has done and she had the audacity to say “well, we only have 20 minutes with patients, we can’t look at your chart”. Excuse me??? Since effing when??? THEN she took my blood sugar because I demanded she do so because I have hypoglycemia and was literally told by every other specialist to have my doctor periodically check it because I was on the edge of diabetes and it came back 100 which she said was “normal”. Except that even the system flagged it as ABNORMAL because 100 is a point outside of the normal range. And she tells me I’m NORMAL?!?! She was completely dismissive and I had to fight to get blood tests! When I saw Dr. Long, she would run whatever test I asked for or she thought would help rule things out. I miss her so unbelievably much. Seeing Dr. Maw brought back all the PTSD from when I was on medi-cal and constantly dismissed and never heard from god complexed MD’s with tunnel vision who can’t be bothered to keep up to date with the latest research. Dr. Long is a DO instead of an MD and they take their time to look at the whole functioning system so maybe that’s why there’s such a difference in level of care. MD’s only know what they’ve been taught by the book and if it doesn’t align, they dismiss it. They don’t bother to think outside the box and even recognize that suboptimal blood tests can be enough to disrupt an entire human ecosystem. This is literally a fact at this point with the amount of research from credible peer reviewed sources that has come out over the past several years. UCD used to be good and now it’s just AWFUL. It could be covid, but I’ve noticed a general decline since before covid started. I’m tired of fighting for my health. I’m tired of being dismissed. I am college educated, I come from a long line of intelligent people who work as engineers and medical doctors themselves! I am not just some random townie who doesn’t know anything. I am tired of suffering and this is the kind of thing that makes people want to off themselves. Especially when they chalk up everything to stress and depression never once considering that MAYBE I’m stressed and depressed because I AM UNWELL AND NO ONE IS HELPING ME!!!!!! I was completely fine until I started being unable to even breathe or lift anything as a relatively young woman! And in the rare days I’m feeling physically ok, I feel absolutely fine mental health wise. This is absolutely deplorable!!! Do better UCD!!! You are not at all living up to your legacy! Dr. Maw often works with Dr. Williams' patients and vice-versa at UCD Folsom. Dr. Maw is an excellent Physician who is thorough and compassionate! We have had superb care from Dr. Maw!

I find Dr Maw very attentive and always has my best interest in mind. I have asked for things and she has accommodated just to keep my mind at ease. My insurance has changed and doesn't cover what it use to so I dont go see her as often as I would like.

Be careful with what you say when you see this doctor. I went in for a yearly physical and she asked me how I was feeling. I mentioned I had been tired lately. She then wrote down codes for fatigue which changed my routine physical/preventative visit (free yearly with my insurance) into a sick patient visit. Now, I have a large bill. I feel like this was very underhanded and won't go back to this doctor.
