Stephen B Mooney

Dr. Mooney was a complete jerk at every visit, was too busy for questions and rushed at every visit. He was brutally honest to the point of making patients cry, out of pure rudeness. He had zero compassion for what women go through just to have children. I’ve never met a dr who viewed his patients as a burden until I met him and he’s the perfect definition. Please don’t waste your time!

I am writing this review in the hopes that detailing my experience will help someone else not have to go through what I did and hopefully improve the patient care at this office. My history: I am a 30 year old Caucasian female, married, I have had three miscarriages in the past year and a half. I am a recent employee of Cleveland Clinic so I had to transfer doctor’s offices due to insurance purposes. I called and scheduled my initial infertility appointment with Dr. Mooney and had an in person consultation on January 25, 2021. He ordered 8 different labs to be drawn and a SIS ultrasound. I had the SIS ultrasound done on Feb 1, 2021 and the labs drawn on Feb 12, 2021. I was having issues getting labs drawn because not all locations tested for what I needed. This was a headache that I had to handle all on my own. I was getting updates on MyChart regarding my lab results, nothing regarding the SIS ultrasound. I had to take the initiative and call the office to get my results. The office said they are unable to tell me my results over the phone and I had to schedule an appointment with Dr. Mooney to go over them. This was able to be done virtually but that appointment wasn’t able to be scheduled until March 1, 2021. At the appointment on March 1, 2021, Dr. Mooney told me the SIS ultrasound (that was done a month ago exactly), showed a polyp and it had to be removed. They weren’t able to confirm that it was the reason for all my previous miscarriages, but they said it could be a huge factor. The size and placement of the polyp was not good and he said we need to schedule surgery. This was a lot to take in but I was happy I was at least getting answers. I waited a week to call the office back to schedule the surgery (since they weren’t calling me). Everytime I called they said, “Dr. Mooney hasn’t put the order in yet. We can’t schedule until he does that.” Little did I know those words would be repeated a dozen times. I called relentlessly for over 3 weeks because the order was never put in. I went to the office to see if there was anything I could do and they said no. They assured me they would call him directly and get the office administrator involved. I broke down into tears instantly as I felt helpless in more ways than one. I was disappointed that a renowned facility such as Cleveland Clinic was dropping the ball on such an important matter. I was finally called by the office to have surgery scheduled for the March 24, 2021. I made a comment to the receptionist, “I hope I can get off work with such little notice.” In which she replied, “you better, we pulled so many strings to make this happen.” I felt like such an inconvenience and a problematic patient. If I wasn’t so worried about getting the surgery, I would have switched practices without hesitation. The surgery is cycle specific so I needed to be off my period in order for the surgery to happen. Six days before the scheduled surgery I didn’t start my period. I took a pregnancy test and it was positive. We were able to conceive on our own without ANY help from Dr. Mooney. I was instantly gutted because I knew the polyp could cause complications. I was able to see the baby, the gestational sac, hear the heartbeat, but also see the polyp. I was 6w3d when I started spotting. I called and scheduled an appointment with Akron Children’s Hospital Maternal Fetal Medicine (who will only see me once I am pregnant) and they were able to get in me the next morning. I went in for an ultrasound and they broke the horrible news that we miscarried, once again. The polyp was taking up the baby’s blood supply in my uterus. I scheduled a D&C three days later where they cleaned out my uterus as well as removed the polyp. While Dr. Mooney and the Cleveland Clinic were not directly responsible for the outcome of this latest pregnancy, I feel that my heartbreak could have been prevented if he would have put in orders when he saw what was wrong. I will be paying for Tier 2 coverage and going els

Excellent doctor! Kind, compassionate, with a sense of humor. He listens & takes the time with his patients. (The clinic system/nursing staff is not the easiest to navigate, but its worth it).

I'm not very touchy feely about fertility issues, but wow Dr. Mooney had no idea how to talk about infertility in a supportive way. That is the opposite of how a doctor should be in this position. I also waited an hour in an empty office (assistant offered to "write me a note" for my employer which seemed condescending)

Bad experience. Waited over an hour, then when he did the ultrasound, he couldn’t find the embryo after trying unsuccessfully for 15 minutes. He then asked me what I was going to do since he couldn’t find it and walked out of the room.

Dr Mooney is great! The wait time and office staff are less than desirable, however.

Very upfront and down to earth. He is extremely knowledgeable. While I had 4 other doctors not able to tell me I had ovarian failure. Dr Mooney figures it out immediately. He addressed my hormones and vitamin d deficiency, while others ignored my concerns. He listens well and addresses my questions.
