Dr. Steven Cowart

Don't recommend this Dr to my worst enemy

I came to Dr. Cowart 20 years ago with uncontrolled diabetes and an HBA1C of over 13. He listened intently to everything I was doing to try to control my diabetes and then calmly said, let's start over on your diabetes control. My diabetes has been under control since then and I'm below 6.5 on my A1C. He saved my life.

Dr. Cowart is very good at catching things that other physicians may have missed. He takes the time to fight for his patients with the insurance company bureaucracies.

I have been Dr Cowarts patient for over 10 years. He has always listened to my concerns and my health issues. Lucky to have him as a doctor.

Dr. Cowart has been my endocrinologist for almost six years, and he is an invaluable part of my health team. He listens, answers your concerns and explains your treatment plan. I've been a patient of Dr. Cowart for over 12 years. He is quiet, but answers all my questions and is always kind and respectful. He immediately puts you at ease with his demeanor. He does get straight to the point and is very efficient. My husband has been a patient for almost as long and wouldn't see anyone else. Dr. Cowart is an excellent physician. His personality is rather dry and he doesn't engage in conversation during his visits, but I trust his judgment. He diagnosed me with hyperparathyroidism in 2017. His office assisted in my getting care at the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa, FL. I was diagnosed with a benign tumor on one of my parathyroid glands. The tumor was wrapped around my recurrent laryngeal nerve. The surgeon had to remove it with a scalpel and scissors. I kept my voice. Under the hands of a less experienced surgeon I would have lost my voice.

He is straightforward. I like that he orders tests before your appointment so meds can be immediately adjusted. I like more information about my condition and sometimes find him to brush off concerns. He is, however, thorough. His staff is great and friendly.

Dr Cowart cares for the health and well-being of his patients. I have been seeing him as a patient for 20+ years. I initially saw him in an emergent situation and he spent hours to make me stable. Good physician.

I have been Dr. Cowart’s patient fir about 5 years. He is diligent in his medical advice. He knows your medical history. Dr. Cowart is always thinking of you as an individual, not a one size fits all. Staff is super.

I have been seeing Dr, Cowart for many years. He is very nice, listens to you problems and takes care of them. He is a quiet person because he is thinking of ways to treat you and maybe reading your records. Anyway He is a great doctor.

I've been seeing Dr. Cowart since shortly after i was diagnosed for diabetes Type II, so close to 15 years. He is not a hand-holder, but he is very good at keeping up with your bloodwork and making sure you are treated properly. His staff is friendly and competent. Only complaint has been that if i have to reschedule due to busy work calendar it is often quite some time to get a new appointment since he has so many patients.

Doctors staff is very rude. Was referred to him by another doctor but after I was sent to get lab work (via phone call) and they were rude with the lab rep and myself who needed my paper work to get the test done, I decided I don't need that negativity in my life. I've been going to Dr.Cowart for 7 years..he is very professional.he take his job very serious.I will always go to him as long as long as I have to or until he dismisses me..he is a good respectful man and an awesome doctor.he is not big on chit chat..but if it has anything to do with your health .he is there to help you anyway he can!

Pretty obvious when he’s having a bad day. Attitude problem. May be knowledgeable and highly-qualified but an examining room isn’t the place for over-dramatic arrogance.

Dr. Cowart is a straight to the point kind of guy. As for my personal preference he has just the right amount of communication that I appreciate. Too much talking and a barrage of information overwhelms me so Dr. Cowart is a good fit for me. Being an active advocate for my own T1d health and it showing on my visits really helps him give me the best care necessary.

I went to Dr. Cowart for the first time yesterday and he seemed to respect my honesty and me as a patient.

Dr. Cowart is one of the last great doctors. I've been going to him for just under a year and I can say that he is not the whiz bang type of doctor that is going to spend less than 2 minutes with you. He likes to know the details and several times now he has actually performed research before giving me a diagnosis or assigning a treatment path. Yes, it takes a little longer in those scenarios but I like that he tries to get it right and respects my time and money. Dr. Cowart is one of the last great doctors. I have been seeing Dr Cowart for over 20 years. In the early days, I do remember the wait in his office being long but the longer I have been a patient, the quicker my wait times have become. I am very appreciative that he runs tests before prescribing/changing medication. And unlike other doctors, Dr. Cowart is very open to discussion about research I have done in reading other endocrinology journal publications related to my condition. His nurses and office staff deserve kudos too! A+

Saw him a long time ago. Did not show interest in the patient's problems with insulin.

I have been a patient of Dr. Cowart for almost 1 year. I have to say that my first meeting with him did not seem very positive for me. It was during my 2nd visit that I realized Dr. Cowart is a bit of an introvert and you just have to get him talking. He has ALWAYS answered any question I had but in the first visit, there was very little 'bed side manner' ; he answered my questions in a short yet informative answers and did not encourage any other type of conversation. After I got him talking, I have had great, if not enjoyable, appointments ever since. I specifically listed my mother had dementia, Dr. Cowart continued to ask her questions. However, my mother does not need a friend, she needs a good physician, Dr. Cowart is good. We waited since May for our October appointment, then we waited 1-1/2 hours in the waiting room for our appointment. The front office staff assured me we would be seen by 12 pm because that is when they go to lunch. I understand this, being a pharmaceutical rep for 20 plus years. But..... come on!

He does take time to listen to the patient. He only looks at numbers from tests not the body. On a Thyroid exam, he barely touch my nexk, look at my skin is any physical exam spend a short time with me.

Dr. Cowart was rude and condescending to me as a patient. He laughed at me when I tried to discuss symptoms of my chronic disease. He would not answer questions and acted as though it was an imposition to be taking up his time. He was not interested in me as a person or a patient. He basically sniveled around the room and insulted me then darted out without answering any of my questions or addressing any of my concerns. I will never go back. I have heard from many other of his ex-patients who also hated how he treated them and who also felt like he had not given them a decent level of medical care.
