Had my teen son (who has a freshly broken collar bone) wait in the crowded waiting room for well over an hour before the receptionist told us he still had other patient ahead of us. Such disrespect for peoples time!!Avoid!!!

The staff at IBJI in Libertyville are great, and the doctor that referred me to Dr. Chams is great! Unfortunately my experience with Dr. Chams was not good. He did not know the full extent of my injury, or the causation of the injury despite it being right in the chart. He had no idea what bones I had broken, I had to tell him. He had no idea of all of the relevant findings of my MRI, because he never took the time to look. He did not know how my injury was affecting my daily living yet he provided options without knowing the full scope of the situation. He never took the time to find out how my injury was affecting my daily living or what outcomes I was hoping to achieve. Each time I tried to discuss my I current situation and what I hoped to achieve to return to maximum medical improvement he cut me off - more than once. According to Dr. Chams he does “the most” shoulder repairs in Chicago - so I presume he is probably good. He does surgery 4 days a week and see patients 1. Which makes me wonder how much time he would have for post surgery follow up. Would it be rushed and would he take the time to see how I was recovering? If you do not know your patients needs, their lifestyle and the full extent of their injuries just how good are you? I was very disappointed in the consultation/medical appointment with Dr. Chams. He did not know what I needed, he did not know the full extent of my injuries, and did not take the time to find out.

I have been working with Dr. Chams and his team for over 10 years now. It has been a great experience! Dr. Chams takes the time to explain everything and make sure you're comfortable with the next steps. His staff is always friendly and eager to help.

I found Dr. Chams to be extremely dismissive. If you are looking for comprehensive care, I would recommend another surgeon. My initial office visit entailed a 1 hr 40 min wait; a sign of things to come. After my wait, Chams spent all of maybe 3 minutes of his time with me where a mri was ordered. Our second visit was maybe 3 minutes as well, where surgery was recommended to repair my rotator cuff. Day of surgery, he never checked in with me, nor did he post operation. He did manage a call to the waiting room to say things went well post-surgery to my family. Post-surgery documentation was a joke. I received 2016 documentation regarding prescribed medication, my surgery was 2021. No documentation as to what was actually prescribed or dosing information. "Read the label" was the note. Very little post care documentation: what was provided was not written for a patient. All post-care was delegated to his several physicians assistant’s, none of whom were consistent.

Dr. Chams was helpful throughout the entire process of my diagnosis and surgery on my shoulder. The surgery was successful, and I was able to get back to doing everything I was able to do prior to injuring my shoulder.

I absolutely love Dr.Chams. I have had many surgeries and Dr.Chams was the best surgeon as far as making me feel heard, showing concern for me as a human being, and taking the best care of me. He talked to me to make me comfortable before and after my surgery and called my parents once surgery was done to tell them everything that happened. He was so personable and diligent. Truly the best surgeon I’ve had!!!!

Dr. Chams may be one of the best, but he or his appointment coordinators have a total disregard for your time. I have made two appointments and have had to reschedule both. At the first one I was asked to wait what would have been 1 1/2 hours past my appointment. No thx, reschedule. Today after waiting 30 minutes I was told it would be another 45 minutes. No thx, reschedule. So be forewarned, ask for a 7:00 am appointment, or right after lunch, 1:00. Although I haven’t tried the after lunch wait as yet. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Chams and his Professional staff. Through all aspects of the care, from the early prep where the proposed surgical repair was explained to me, to the actual day of the surgery, Dr Chams always made the time to explain all aspects of the repair and recovery. I never felt rushed. He answered all of my questions and did not leave until I was satisfied with his answers. If there were questions post surgery, Paul Ziamba a member of his team always got back to me as quickly as possible. This was the second shoulder repair for me and in both cases I am back to my normal life. Granted ongoing PT is critical but I have been able to resume my life. His medical talent is second to none as well as his communication skills and interest that you recover. I hope you never require shoulder repair but if you do you need to call Dr. Chams!! They take time to listen to what my problems always are. Give me options and never try to push toward surgery. I’ve been going to them for 15 plus years and I’m still playing golf and tennis. I can always trust them won’t go anywhere else.

My knee problems started 9 years ago when I tore my ACL playing football. I had to keep having knee surgeries after continuous re-tears in both knees and seeing the same doctor. I got a second opinion through Dr. Chams, who immediately recognized that the ACL wasn’t the only issue at hand so I had been essentially using duct tape. The tunnels which held my tendon in place were so far apart that no matter how many times I replaced my ACL it would just be a matter of time until I tore it again. And I did. But since Dr. Chams addressed the true issue I have never felt this confident in my knees since I was a naive kid. I can enjoy going on hikes and jogs again and just finished a long hiking trip out west with my girlfriend. Dr. Chams and his team were able to help make these corrections the last ones I will ever need, and being a 23 yr old with around 8 knee surgeries under my belt, having the confidence to know these were some of my last knee surgeries gave me so much relief. There's a reason Dr. Chams is considered to be the gold standard in his profession. His reputation as a surgeon is unsurpassed, his bedside manner is terrific, and his staff is first rate. Why would anyone take their knee or shoulder to anyone else?!?

Check in was efficient and easy, I was in and with the Doctor within 5 minutes of arriving. Dr Chams was quick, asked questions to understand my trouble and had great input on how to correct my problems. He gave me a cortisone shot right away and scheduled an MRI to occur in a week. I'm very happy with my experience.

I was really impressed with the outpatient surgery that I had. Dr. Chams was very helpful in explaining the process to me and what I should expect. It is now 7 months after my rotator cuff surgery and I am very pleased with my recovery.

Dr. Chams and his Team provided great care and direction for my shoulder surgery. I would highly recommend his services. From the start, they told me everything to expect, including the PT time and exercises required to get back to full strength.

Doctor Chams was very through and very friendly.

Dr. Charm and his PA were very nice. Dr. Charm is conservative on treatment which I appreciated. I probably won’t go back due to the fact that I feel this is a very corporate office as opposed to your Dr. actually knowing you. There are so many patients and staff and everyone was constantly moving all around you, making some aspects of checking in and out, confusing. Dr. Cham's has been my orthopedic surgeon for 11 years, performing two knee surgeries in 2010 (lateral release and patellofemoral ligament reconstruction) and my most recent dual shoulder surgeries in 2020. My teenage son had 2 planned knee surgeries with Dr Chams - one 11/2020 and the second 1/2021. From start to finish, everything was top notch. He and his staff are excellent, friendly, caring and made the whole process easy. Physical therapy @ IBJI was also top notch. Highly recommend them!

I had knee pain several months ago. Dr. Chams came highly recommended by few people I know. He has been fixing knees & shoulders for a long time and has tons of experience. I met with him couple times, he took the time to listen to me and explained my treatment options well. He ended up scoping my knee after PT did not resolve my pain. He removed some meniscus and repaired what he could. I liked that he took great care to preserve as much tissue as possible and removed only the minimum necessary. His PAs and office staff are great. Over the years- as my personal fitness goals/level has changed- Dr. Chams has always provided treatment recommendations based on what my short term and long term goals are- while setting very realistic expectations on recovery. Dr. Chams was thorough and easy to work with. While it turned out my Dads issue was not his expertise he still took time to talk with him and provide some temporary relief. He recommended someone else in the practice and we had an appointment scheduled with that doctor prior to leaving the office.

Horrible post surgery follow up. Out of control pain for 2-1/2 months. Chams referred me two 3 different Drs, all who said HE should be treating this. Chams and staff don't want to hear anything other than everything is wonderful. Had to get a different ortho to manage my recovery.

I had a global tear in my left rotator cuff. Dr. Chams did the surgery and then gave me strict instructions on what I had to do to recover completely. It was not easy to follow those instructions and go through the PT, but I did it. I also did everything the therapists at IBJI told me to do, including doing my exercises at home 2-3 times a day. My physical therapy took 7 months. I not only have full use of my left shoulder, but I never have pain. Dr. Chams knows exactly what he is doing, but the patient has to do what he tells you to do if you want a complete recovery.

Some reviewers complained about the wait, and they are right...A little like complaining about a crowded and hard to book 5 star restaurant though...Reality is that he is in demand because he is so good. May not have the best bedside manner, but you will really like the results. Previous surgeon (another practice) screwed up my rotator cuff surgery very badly, and Dr Chams fixed it and did a fantastic job. I've seen Dr. Chams many times over the past twenty years for a variety of knee and shoulder concerns. He's simply the best! His surgical expertise along with the concern he shows along with an excellent support staff yield a great outcome for his patients.

Everything was great with Dr. Chams. He has helped me return back to play faster than was expected. He has been nothing but help to my family and I!

I saw Dr. Chams based on a close friend referral. He is very professional and knowledgeable. A quick look at my MRI and physical review of my shoulder he knew it was a labrum tear. I was able to schedule when it was best for me to have the surgery. His staff of PAs answer most all the questions you have prior to surgery. My tear was a lot worse than the MRI revealed, but Chams was confident that he would be able to fix it. My advice, stick to the schedule, the routine, and plan they give you and you will be ok. He has successful history with hundreds of patients. Find a good PT therapist, and follow the routine. The recovery is slow, but all went as expected. You may find that Dr. Chams is a very busy Dr. with not a lot of time for patients, but if you have your questions and concerns ready, he will answer them directly. His professionalism, knowledge, and past successful history would have me recommend him to anyone with orthopedic work. 4 starts not 5 because of the office wait time to see him.
