Dr. Levin was very engaging with the entire visit and process with my son's knee surgery. He didn't rush any office visits; he listened to our concerns and questions and really explained what was wrong and how he would correct the ACL tear with surgery. The outcome was perfect and his follow up visits and attention to detail were greatly appreciated. My son understood what was expected of him for rehab and he is now back to playing ball with no pain. I would definitely recommend Dr. Levin to anyone who needs an orthopedic surgeon.

I was in shock when Dr. Levin told me that he would NOT operate on my left shoulder ( that was later examined to be in need of being replaced.) Again, maybe it's time top retire sir.

Dr Levin is an incredible surgeon, and I am thankful that I saw him for my ACL Revision. Five years prior, I saw a different surgeon and I had an allograft ACL surgery and a repaired torn miniscus - and it was a slow recovery that never really happened. I was on crutches for 10 weeks, had to have a second surgery to remove scar tissue and even though I had a year of PT - still never felt stable. My friend recommended Dr Levin - he instantly ordered an MRI and discovered that the ACL was not connected, the holes were out of place, and unfortunately the surgery needed to happen again, but fortunately Dr Levin did an outstanding job - he separated the surgery into two sessions - one to repair the holes and clean out the old ACL - second surgery to utilize an autograph. I was off crutches in one day - two weeks later could put all my weight on the replaced ACL and am way ahead of schedule on a speedy recovery. When you pick a surgeon, pick the right one - Dr Levin is the right one

Without hyperbole, all of these attributes were exhibited in my wife’s reverse total shoulder replacement with Dr. Levin. Kudos must be added for Dr. Levin’s wonderful surgical team, their talent often unheralded, but absolutely necessary for the health of the whole. We did meet Lindsey (a gracious link to everyone!) and his anesthesiologist (excellent medical and people skills), Paul Guillod. We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome as well as the process leading up to this complex operation.

Dr. Levin did an outstanding job on my ACL reconstruction. He recommended I use my hamstring as a graft and I went with his professional opinion. He saw me the morning before my surgery and checked to make sure I was ready to go. After surgery he called my wife and told her the surgery was a success. I meet with him monthly now just to check my progress I have also used Dr. Levin in the past for meniscus surgeries. With knee surgery, it takes time to heal. I highly recommend Dr. Levin as an orthopedist. I was suffering from shoulder and arm pain. Upon my initial visit, Dr. Levin was on time. He was very patient with me to hear my symptoms and ordered and Xray and MRI. Upon review, he quickly diagnosed the problem and explained that i needed ortho scope surgery called Mumford Procedure. Other orthopedist that I saw were not trained in doing this procedure with a scope. Dr. Levin is trained which is the less invasive and more modern technique. His bedside manner is very good and calmed my mind prior to surgery. The surgery went well and so did the post visits. Dr Levin was agin on time for the post op. He showed me a before and after on his iPad of my shoulder on the scope and explained in detail exactly what he did to repair the shoulder. Everything went well as planned and my shoulder feels fantastic.

Dr. Levin provided an opinion on my right shoulder after reviewing the MRI images and report provided by the radiologist assessing my MRI. Dr. Levine's assessment that my injury required a total shoulder replacement was consistent with the opinions of three other orthopedic surgeons who reviewed my case. Dr. Levine was prepared to perform my surgery within a few weeks however my provincial health provider is not prepared to fund out of country elective surgeries.

I dislocated my shoulder surfing. I was considering surgery but did my research. I consulted with Dr. Steve Levin in Chicago as he is Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for USA Rugby, on the editorial board of American Journal of Sports Medicine, as well as many other accolades and qualifications. He was extremely knowledgeable, patient, thorough, empathetic and responsive. He guided me through the process including options for surgery and non-surgery treatment. I had a rotator cuff injury, which consisteted of 5 separate severe issues, including several full-thickness tears. It was bad. To my surprise, he was able and capable of surgically repairing all of them in one surgery only. 4 months later I am restored to normality! I would give Dr. Levin zero stars if this were an option. I worry that he may take a patient to the operating room when he knows they do not need it based on what I learned happened to a recent patient and based on how that patient and family expressed surprise and disappointment after their surgery. I worry that he showed dereliction in his duty to his patients because pre surgical counseling did not reflect the surgical outcome. Unfortunate adequate ability to provide patient-centered care in my opinion when it comes to patient counseling and discussing options because of how poorly things were explained and patient understanding was assessed. It is such an unfortunate feeling when patient or patient's family feels surprised and disappointed after a surgery where the outcome is not something they were prepared for. In interactions, I am concerned he is misleading and arrogant because of how those who spoke with him felt after their conversations. I am dismayed by the way he treated my elderly family member. I worry that what he does borders on poor practice, because pre-surgical counseling did not adequately prepare or educate the patient or family members for the possible outcomes. I first like to say Steven did a excellent job diagnosing my shoulder issues. Dr. Levin performed an arthroscopic surgery on my right shoulder. I enjoy working out (swimming, weight-lifting), and, while I've had lingering discomfort in my right shoulder for decades now, the intensity of this pain has increased over the last couple of months. Over the years, I've visited other orthopedic surgeons, and most of them gave me the rote diagnosis of "tendonitis" along with the suggestion to ice the shoulder and take it easy for a while, which basically led me back to where I started. Dr. Levin was the first orthopedic surgeon, who showed more than just the professionally polite level of engagement and interest in trying to solve my condition. He took the time to diagnose my condition and explain it to me, as well as assign further testing (MRI with contrast) and walk me through the proposed surgical solution. Dr Levin diagnosed and promptly reconstructed my son's knee after a skiing injury. He and his staff were always prompt and efficient with visits. We never felt rushed. Dr. Levin is such a phenomenal surgeon and has done 2 completely different orthopedic surgeries on me and corrected both problems completely, leaving no lingering pain or problems ever again. He is so intelligent and skilled as a surgeon and is always completely honest in how and what needs to be done. He’s easy to talk to and always willing to answer any of my questions or concerns. After my epicondylitis surgery years ago, I knew when I had a shoulder injury he was the Doctor to choose! Dr. Levin was on time and yet spent as much time as I wanted with me. He was kind, honest and most knowledgeable with my diagnosis, and he was able to say he didn't know an answer when asked something he wasn't sure of. He recommended alternatives to try before surgery too. I did opt for surgery and he performed it with the most minimal scar and after a few short months of PT, I was at my pre surgical fitness. I suffered severe tears of my right rotator cuff and a bicep tendon after falling down the stairs and could barely move my arm. Dr. Levin saw me immediately and helped expedite treatment. The surgery was successful and following rehab, continued hard work and a little patience, only 9 months later I am back to my same level of activity and exercise with only minor modifications. I fully expect to get back to 100% in the not so distant future. Top marks all around to Dr. Levin and his staff.

Dr. Levin did my labrum surgery in 2020. He is by far the best surgeon I have ever worked with. My surgery and recovery were excellent and my should is now 100%. I would recommend him to anyone. He is a straight shooter and will tell you exactly what you need to get your injury back to where it was before.

Dr. Levin diagnosed my shoulder pain as end stage arthritis. He showed me the x-rays, CAT scans, and MRI's of both shoulders. Dr. Levin gave me a complete picture of why I had so much pain and what options I had to resolve the issue. He said injections would be possible but would not last very long (possibly not help at all) because the joints were bone on bone, as well as other growths which restricted my mobility. As well he explained that he could not guarentee complete range of motion return due to my age (73). BUT he said he could restore mobility to a good degree depending on the physical therapy and my determination to work on this issue independently. I decided, upon thinking about my situation, to move forward with surgeries, one in June, 2020, one in January, 2021. Dr. Levin (and his amazing staff) is wonderfully honest, very proud of his success in helping his patient (me!) move forward with an active life and eliminating the pain of arthritis. I've been involved in contact sports pretty much my whole life. I played high school, college, and professional football. Over the years, I've visited other orthopedic surgeons, and most of them gave me the rote diagnosis of "tendonitis" along with the suggestion to ice the shoulder and take it easy for a while, which basically lead me back to where I started. Dr. Levin was the first orthopedic surgeon, who showed more than just the professionally polite level of engagement and interest in trying to solve my condition. He took the time to diagnose my condition and explain it to me, as well as assign further testing (MRI with contrast) and walk me through the proposed surgical solution. I appreciate Dr. Levin's engagement, care, and knowledge in dealing with my injury as well as working with me to make it feel better.

Dr Levin went outside of his focus area to notice an issue outside of his primary focus which may resulted in an incurable condition worsening instead of resulting in a favorable outcome. He went beyond to notice a mass in my lungs and insisted I take actions before he would consider shoulder surgery. He may have saved my life as this mass was nominally cancerous but being caught early allowed for early intervention and nominal surgery to address the issue and ensure my overall health. His focus on the patient’s health instead of a myopic perspective will always be greatly appreciated.

Still the best since he replaced my right total shoulder 2010.

I was referred by a colleague to Dr. Levin after I injured my knee playing a recreational sport. I was able to make an apt within days of my injury, so there was no long wait time to get in. Dr. Levin immediately diagnosed me with an ACL tear which was confirmed by a follow-up MRI. Dr. Levin exudes confidence and experience and scheduled me for ACL reconstruction surgery which took place approximately 1 month after my injury, giving my knee some time to heal from the initial bruising and damage that was caused by the ACL tear. The surgery was outpatient at NorthShore University Hospital in Skokie which is a beautiful facility. Dr. Levin used a piece of my hamstring to act as my new ACL and I only have 5 small cuts around my knee that were used to perform the surgery. I am currently recovering and confident that my knee will be back to what it once was before my injury. Dr. Levin’s knowledge and experience with knees is very impressive and I would highly recommend him!

Dr. Levin is forthright and an exceptional surgeon. My shoulder replacement and recovery went smoothly. If you want touchy feely you will be disappointed. If you want the truth straight out, this is the doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Levin.

My experience with Dr. Levin has been exceptional. I have had shoulder issues for 3-4 years and after my first consultation with him, I knew he was the right doctor for me. After seeing my MRI, Dr. Levin assured me he could take care of the problems in my shoulder. He said I would be able to resume my activities that I had not been able to do without discomfort. He was very knowledgeable and professional as well as understanding of my situation. Since he has done the surgery on my shoulder, I am confident I will fully recover from rotator cuff surgery. Dr Levin also operated on both of my son’s shoulders and they have made complete recoveries and are back competing at a high level in handball. I have high regards for Dr Levin and his staff. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Levin helped me through my running injuries. He was very professional, thorough, and he did a great job explaining the nature of my injuries in a way that I could easily understand. He took a conservative approach to my treatment and stressed the importance of following through with my physical therapy. Dr. Levin reconstructed my ACL after I tore it playing high school lacrosse. I’m now playing again above the level before I tore it. Dr. Levin is nothing short of amazing. I researched him out and noted he had a couple 1 star ratings. After working with Dr. Levin, those ratings had to be by disgruntled patients who probably had to wait to see him. His office is always filled with elite athletes in need of expert orthopedic surgical care. That made me want to see him even more. My entire experience with him was outstanding. Love this doctor! Specializes in shoulder surgery. I had a total shoulder replacement and he was incredible. Had all the time in the world to answer my questions and make me feel comfortable. Great follow-up. His excellent care and concern for you continues after the surgery.

I cannot recommend Dr. Steven Levin too highly! As a professional pianist and university music professor my hands, arms and shoulders are my livelihood. I had been experiencing pain in my left shoulder for years, and always assumed it was a result of my long hours at the piano. My primary care physician sent me to Dr. Levin, whom she described as “the shoulder guy”. Dr. Levin diagnosed calcific tendonitis in my shoulder and explored non-surgical treatments, none of which eased my symptoms. An MRI scan revealed that the calcium buildup was very large and had probably damaged the tendons of my rotator cuff. Dr. Levin recommended arthroscopic surgery to remove the calcium and repair any damage. I was terrified of the idea and fixated on the disruption to my career. The doctor did an excellent job of calming me down and explained why this was my best treatment option. The surgery was a great success, thanks to Dr. Levin! He removed the extensive calcium buildup, shaved a bone spur and repaired a small tear to my rotator cuff. Dr. Levin and his excellent physician assistant, Lindsey Dolezal, saw me two days after surgery. They checked my post-surgical shoulder mobility, explained the surgery in detail (with fascinating photographs that show whole operation) and detailed the recovery process to me. Thankfully, my recovery went very smoothly. I did exactly as they told me with regards to care of my shoulder, including not playing the piano with my left hand for almost four weeks. I then had seven weeks of PT with the terrific Sean McInerney at Evanston Athletic Club. I am delighted to say that playing the piano is physically easier for me than it has been in years. I injured my shoulder and Dr. Levin performed surgery. His entire process leading up to surgery and after was phenomenal. I felt comfortable and informed through the entire process, in part because of Dr. Levin's ability to answer questions in an easy-to-understand way and because he never rushed me out of the room (though I know he was busy). He told me that while the MRI showed a partial labrum tear, he would not fully know until he was inside my shoulder. He prepared me for two outcomes, repairing the tear (long heal time) or repairing a smaller issue (quicker heal time). He said to brace for worst and hope for the best. Luckily, it was not a tear and he cleaned up bone spurs, arthritis, and some other issues in my shoulder. He also guided me through rehabilitation and my shoulder is now like new. THANKS DR. LEVIN! Words cannot describe how much this man has helped me with my knee issue. After battling a torn ACL for while i saw Dr. Levin and he was amazing to say the least. The man was respectful, courteous, and performed the surgery with excellence. Three weeks post op and my knee is already better than it was before. I highly recommend, due to the fact that's he's a humanitarian and an expert in his field.

Dr. Steven Levin doesn't need any marketing or anything to propagandize & promote his career. He is an established orthopedic surgeon. People already know about his professionalism and his knowledge. Needless to say that he is master of his skill. What people may not know that he is PROFOUNDLY COMPASSIONATE. For him his patient & successful surgery is very important but even more than that the PERSON is most important. He connects with the person's core & the person becomes full of gratitude & indebtedness to Dr. Levin for life. I am the mother of one such person. My son a basketball player had ACL tear and other issues with his knee and was getting a run around from everyone due to his immigration issues. Dr. Levin took the entire case in his able hands and got surgery scheduled right away whereas it could have taken 6-8 months. 2 weeks ago I came in to see Dr. Steven Levin with severe pain in my right shoulder. After completing an xray Dr. Levin diagnosed the problem as Calcific Tendinitis in my right shoulder. After a cortisone shot and 2 weeks of physical therapy, my shoulder is back to normal. I highly recommend Dr. Levin for any patient with shoulder problems.

I cannot recommend Dr. Steven Levin too highly! As a professional pianist my hands, arms and shoulders are my livelihood. Dr. Levin operated on my left shoulder to remove an extensive calcium deposit, shave a bone spur and repair my rotator cuff. Thanks to his great expertise the surgery was a success. After 11 weeks of rehab I was playing the piano without pain and discomfort for the first time in years.

Apparently Dr Levin is a good doctor. I don’t know. What I do know is that his office practices are severely lacking. I was referred to him by my GP for shoulder surgery. My first call was to determine if Dr Levine was available to see me in the rough time frame I had available to do the surgery. After an absolute barrage of personal questions about myself, my injury and my insurance details, it was explained to me that it was a different department that would be dealing with me and would offer no information as to an approximate timetable. To be clear, I had not decided on going with Dr Levin. All I wanted to know was his availability with the timetable I had available to me. Just a question, with a very rough answer would have been fine. But no! The next day I received a call from the correct department and again before they would answer my ONE relatively simple question, they insisted I answer their questions. I understand the bureaucracy involved in the medical business - but as a potential patient, don’t I have the right to ask questions before you needle me with questions. I thought the oath was “first do no harm”, not “first make sure you get paid”. I went with Dr Chen at Illinois Bone and Joint institute. At least they let you get a word in edgeways. I had great outcomes from surgery with Dr. Levin last year. He was very polite, and answered all my questions without hesitation.

Dr. Levin on Dec.5th performed a total Shoulder Implant on my left shoulder. The operation was a complete success. I had limited mobility with in 24 hours with little or no pain. I stopped pain medication on the third day. I feel great ! Prior to the operation I had a pain rate of 7 to 10 sleepless nights caused by having no cartilage and arthritis throughout. The staff was so professional and caring it made the time in the hospital feel like family was caring for you. This was the second shoulder replacement implant the first was my right shoulder on August 30, 2016. My right shoulder is 100% I am excited to get through therapy beginning tomorrow already and to get back to the gym and ready for spring golf. Thank you again Dr. Levin. I had the pleasure to meet Dr Levin years ago and thankfully so. I had been playing softball and hurt my right shoulder. He diagnosed my injury as a right shoulder Labrum Tear. He took time to answer my questions and walk me through the surgery/recovery so there were no surprises. I was able to recover quickly and only used ibuprofen for the pain.
