Dr. Virgilio N Chan

Dr. Chan is a superb physician, whose immediately palpable expertise inspires both confidence and relief for the patient. He puts impressive effort into ensuring that one understands the full reasons for pain and discomfort experienced, with comprehensive diagnostic information, and realistic prognosis for best likely outcomes. In reviewing treatment options, he makes accurate disclosure of possible side-effects, well-informed by the latest research. Through these approaches, he assists his patients in the best prioritizing of the available choices. In my own case, he greatly helped me to analyze more effectively the negative outcomes I was having from an accident a few years ago. Well worth the long drive from my university town to visit him. He is smart, wise, and congenial, with a constructive and positive outlook on solving problems that is infectious. Indeed, he puts healing, or at least ameliorating neurological and orthopedic problems into the patient's hands. He is the polar opposite of the "God" doctor: he is shrewd but not the least judgmental. You can always tell him the truth -- thereby he can suggest the best treatment options. A humanitarian treasure, he is a pleasure to meet, person of great personal style and taste. Manifestly, he takes care of himself, and he will take care of you.

Dr. Chan is a phenomenal physician who has done & continues to do a remarkable job effectively managing my spine-related pain issues. Interventional procedures including both RFA & L4 selective nerve root blocks attenuate my pain significantly, reducing the need for several different types &/or higher dosages of medications to manage my chronic pain conditions. Additionally, Dr. Chan works to manage my pain further with low-dose PRN medication, allowing me to have more functionality & better quality of life. I couldn’t recommend a more compassionate, kind, brilliant physician to truly, effectively manage one’s orthopedic pain conditions; he’s honestly one-of-a-kind! 5/5 Stars! P.S. The two stars are given for Dr. Chan. He is compassionate and a decent doctor however his staff and the team that handles scheduling and billing are awful. A procedure was supposed to be done on the right side of the spine however the paperwork was put together for the left side.. They used the wrong claim code and now insurance is not reimbursing and fighting that battle with their staff who really doesn't seem to care or do something to help me. Dr. Chan was very knowledgeable on my condition and took an extensive medical history. He showed great compassion. My symptoms have improved significantly since starting his treatment.

The staff and doctors were all very friendly. The facility was really clean. The doctors listened to what I had to say and even went and consulted another doctor.

Dr Chan. I’m being charged for an a appointment with you and we have never met. I got an MRI done, then never received physical or verbal results. I was then charged an appointment bill just to have someone explain to me the results after I had to drive to another location to physical get them because no one at your office had them. I cannot recommend Dr. Chan. Indications in our conversations made me think he didn't read my intake forms on either visit I had with him, and I feel this may have lead to an incorrect diagnosis and an inappropriate rush to give a cortisone injection in my hip. When I told him on a follow up visit that his injection did not improve my pain and that I had new and worsening pain, it felt like he was completely uninterested in finding the cause. He told me he could only help me if I were in pain the moment he saw me. When I asked about more testing to find root cause, it felt like he wasn't responding to what I was saying. He would point to my MRI and say it couldn’t be my spine causing my pain, even though I tried to explain I'd had a positive response to a targeted steroid injection in my back that I'd received in emergency care. He was over 15 minutes late to both appointments I had with him, and he never took notes when we spoke. I had to partially undress to receive an injection, and he did not call his medical assistant in to observe. This is the only facility where I've experienced a doctor not calling in a third party when a patient had their undergarments exposed. I only had two visits, but the entire process was frustrating to the point of tears, and I would never go back. I cannot recommend Dr. Chan. Has been very helpful and compassionate, and seems genuinely interested in my well-being as well as my pain and muscle issues.. Along with Dr. Patel, the entire Ortho Indy staff has been great over the years and I highly recommend everyone in Columbus make the drive up!

I have been seeing Dr. Chan for 2 years for arthritis & fibromyalgia. He is the only doctor that has helped me & I've been dealing with these issues for 16 years. He is great !

I've seen Dr Chan fairly regularly for pain and rehab associated with my Osteoarthritis . He's always prompt, professional and very polite. I am moving away from Indpls but I still plan to have him as my doctor. I've recommended him to several people.
